CAPE CHARLES CATS

This painting came from a photo I took almost 20 years ago at Cape Charles Beach. Ironically I was doing an art show at the time. A catamaran race used the beach as a stopping point. I always thought that it would make a great painting and figured one day I would work on it. A couple weeks ago I was in an art gallery in Rehoboth Beach Deleware and saw these huge beautiful colorful paintings by Maryland digital artist Stephen Harlan. His style I really got into and this old photo came to mind. I'd like to encourage everyone to check his web site out http://www.harlaneditions.com/. I have posted the original photo along with my painting, which might see some more beach action before I am finished with it. Thursday, August 21, 2008
POTATO SEASON IN ONANCOCK - 1900

I've been working on this off and on for 6 months. Anyone familiar with Onancock will recognize Hopkin's Brothers Store and the building to the left, which was the steamship ticket office, now a mortgatge broker. The history behind this era is fascinating. Hopkins has been moved twice since it's construction, and the steamship office has been turned around. The other building is long gone.
