This painting came from a photo I took almost 20 years ago at Cape Charles Beach. Ironically I was doing an art show at the time. A catamaran race used the beach as a stopping point. I always thought that it would make a great painting and figured one day I would work on it. A couple weeks ago I was in an art gallery in Rehoboth Beach Deleware and saw these huge beautiful colorful paintings by Maryland digital artist Stephen Harlan. His style I really got into and this old photo came to mind. I'd like to encourage everyone to check his web site out http://www.harlaneditions.com/. POTATO SEASON IN ONANCOCK - 1900

I've been working on this off and on for 6 months. Anyone familiar with Onancock will recognize Hopkin's Brothers Store and the building to the left, which was the steamship ticket office, now a mortgatge broker. The history behind this era is fascinating. Hopkins has been moved twice since it's construction, and the steamship office has been turned around. The other building is long gone.

Valor Not Forgotten

This was done as a commission from a local realtor who has organized a trip to Washington D.C. to see the WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam Memorials. The trip is for local vets of these wars, and has quite a bit of publicity behind it. The vets involoved are to all sign this print, and that will be printed into posters to commerate the trip.

Watt's Island At Dawn

This is a historical pic from the late 1800's. Not only is this lighthouse been swallowed up by the Chesapeake Bay, but most of Watt's Island has dissappeared also. Located between Tangier Island and The Eastern Shore of VA, Watt's was once two islands, Big Watt's and Little Watts. This lighthouse was built on Little Watts, which is totally gone. Big Watts probably will be too sometime in the next 30 years. The island has been uninhabited by people for decades. Not sure the orientation of the buildings to true north, I took liberties in hoping it was looking east to get the sunrise as I did.

Old Pungoteague Light

This is a historical conception of the Pungoteage Light as it was in the earlier part of the century. This was located on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia.

Daybreak at Thomas Point

This painting I did of Thomas Point light house near Annapolis MD. This is mainly airbrushes in Corel Painter IX. I wanted this to be when the sky was sky quite dark and the brightness of the sun and the light from the light house as focal points.

Chincoteague Light

Actually, the Assateague light house, off of Chincoteague. The marsh is somewhat accurate from the bridge looking south. Wanted it to look a little "Kinkade-y" with a bright night scene.

"The Flutist"

This painting is based on a photo I took at the WTC site in lower Manhattan in 2005. I watched him for a minute before snapping the photo. He had a certain look in his eyes that seemed sad, and had me wondering what his story was. The moment I snapped the photo he looked up, and the look in his eyes seemed more perturbed at me taking his picture than sadness. I painted this with the intention of portraying the look I remembered in my mind, that the camera didn't catch. Originally there was a chain link fence he was leaning against. I decided to take the liberty of replacing it with a brick wall. I posted the original photo also. Painter 9 airbrushes.
